Putting the making into placemaking
What kind of place do you make out of a 1.2 million sq ft blank canvas in the Olympic Park on the edge of Hackney Wick?
Working collaboratively with digital agency Poke and architects Hawkins\Brown, our strategy defined Here East as the new spiritual home for the creative and technology sectors embracing ‘making’ and modern manufacturing dubbed the Internet of Things.
Here East is an ecosystem where creative businesses looking to grow in scale can join businesses of scale looking to behave more creatively. A number of pioneering companies are already signed up including BT Sport, Loughborough University, Infinity and Hackney Community College.
Our role also included naming the new destination and creating a graphic identity embracing the disruptive nature of today’s technology-driven businesses. The identity was designed to be generative, connected, and importantly reflecting a ‘made’ aesthetic. Production is ongoing, and includes bespoke typography (a co-production with Colophon & Dalton Maag), print, exhibition design, and collaboration on the graphic dazzle pattern of the architecture.
