We are lucky enough to have an excellent team of project managers at dn&co that steers and delivers a project from inception to delivery. And one new online platform behindthedesign by Represent asks PMs from across the industry to comment on what they do, how they do it, and why project management is inherently vital and creative.

As a British counterpoint to the work on Manhattan's Meatpacking District by Base Design, the publication cited our St James's work and its impact on luring back both brands and customers alike.

On the Grid

Local area guides from design studios – On the Grid is a mammoth project organised by agency HyperAkt covering the neighbourhoods of some 150 cities from across the globe. When asked to contribute – and with some familiarity and insider knowledge – we chose to feature St James's, with all original photography and copywriting. We're exceptionally proud to be adding to this wonderfully rich, insightful, and opinionated resource.

dn&co curates Co-ordinates exhibition for London Design Festival

To launch our new gallery – Ground Floor Space – just off Bermondsey Street, we devised a collaborative exhibition of A1 screenprints involving some of the industry's top design studios. With the brief to 'map London as they see it', the Co-ordinates exhibition and launch event was a great success, with net proceeds going to charity Streets of London.

Though many have sold out, some prints are still available here.

Introducing Television Centre

It was an exceptional privilege to be asked to communicate the ambitious transformation of the BBC’s old headquarters – Television Centre – into a new London destination with homes, offices, television studios, restaurants, cinema, and hotel and members’ club from Soho House.

Turning Jermyn Street into a catwalk for London Collections Men

Part of our placemaking work for St James's and many years in the dreaming, we worked with press relations agency Neville McCarthy Associates and Inca Productions to turn this famous street of shirting into London Collections Men's first public catwalk show. Featuring the fashion best from the local area, as styled by Darren Kennedy, this is the most recent event from Jermyn Street St James's.

Pitch or ditch?

Every agency has their own methodology for assessing a pitch, whether it's as simple as gut-instinct or more methodical and quantitative. This year, we decided to share our own process with the world and Pitcherator was born.

What started in 2006 as three simple metrics, Profit, Profile and Potential, over the years developed into an excel scoring sheet with 10 questions. We have turned the worksheet into a web app which is easy to use on mobile, and have published our thoughts and methodology behind the maths.

We're tracking results (already in the thousands and geographically worldwide) and are hoping to publish interesting statistics about pitches soon. We hope the app will be helpful for design agencies, but that it will also give clients an insight into the best way to run a pitch process.

New dn&co studio

We are excited about our new studio at 3 Tyers Gate, London SE1 3HX.

dn&co is now a short walk from London Bridge station, a quick jump to our clients in the West End and the City. Once again we enjoy the pleasures of inhabiting our own building, this time twice the size and with a large outdoor space for summer lunches and the occasional party. We are also enjoying getting to know this creative and quirky corner of London, loaded with coffee shops and galleries including White Cube.

International Society of Typographic Designers

The ISTD's International Typographic Awards are held every three years to celebrate and appraise standards of excellence in typographic design, judged by our industry peers and leading names in graphic, interactive and type design.

Covering what have been a brilliant and productive three years for dn&co, we were extremely proud to have our efforts recognised with an award for our project AirW1. An extra treat, the award ceremony was held at the beautiful modernist De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill, West Sussex. Starting with champagne, we finished with fish and chips.

Serpentine Gallery Pavilion invitation

We were honoured to be asked to design the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion invitation by its construction company Stanhope for the third year running.

This year's invitation is printed on Curious Translucent Bright White, inspired by Smiljan Radic's semi-transparent and roughly hewn fibreglass design. It is a piece of special production made to match an extraordinary project.

Here East supergraphics

With big buildings, comes bigger response-ability. So, when we began working on a 1.2 million square foot groundscraper, we also got the opportunity to create some super supergraphics.

Here, the H is as high as a double decker bus, while the logo, coming into view on the right, is the full height of the building at 22m, similar to the average eight storey building.

Branding the southern edge of the building created a landmark in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It marked the official launch of Here East during the Invictus Games, and became a great signpost to this exciting new campus for the thousands of other park visitors this summer.

‘Love Affair with Food’ book wins award

It was a pleasure to be recognised in a new category by the architecture & built environment industry at the 2014 PMAs for our work on No.1 Regent Street. The extensive restoration of this historic building will offer a premium restaurant space in an area rich with gastronomic heritage, and the singularity of the project required a unique approach and premium production. The work was awarded Best Marketing Campaign for Retail and Leisure.

Brand launch at SXSW: Austin, Texas

We travelled to Austin, Texas to SXSW – international film, music and interactive festival – to launch Here East to the world's bleeding edge digital community as London's new home for making.

The brand launch featured an exhibition of Hackney’s finest makers and their products, a day of talks, panel debates, and workshops, and culminated in the announcement of a strategic partnership to bring a flagship Maker Faire to London.

The Here East showcase was part of Hackney House Austin, a self-styled ‘alternative trade mission’ and showcase for East London’s creative and tech companies.

Represent and It’s Nice That have successfully collaborated over the years on a fantastic series of opinion pieces, including what makes The Ideal Candidate, The Ideal Studio, and most recently The Ideal Candidate, to which dn&co co-founder Joy Nazzari has been asked to contribute. Pens and Needles exhibition: dn&co’s digital embroidery

Custhom has curated a second exhibition of tactile posters to explore the use of digital embroidery as a unique and expressive form of drawing. We were invited to submit a 2D design for them to translate through stitch or mechanical drawing onto paper, using a ‘hacked’ digital embroidery machine.

The reductive nature of the Bauhaus symbols are a constant source of inspiration for our designers whose approach is modernist and minimal. Our poster is a tribute to the work of Sol LeWitt, whose artwork explored geometric forms, in a logical, sequential and progressive way. We particularly love the happy accidents and complex optical tricks LeWitt’s line paintings produced, something that we enjoyed seeing translated to thread.

Exhibition runs from January 9th to January 26th at KK Outlet, 42 Hoxton Square, London, N1 6PB.

dn&co poster featured in Glory Glory exhibition and book

Glory Glory was a fantastic 1-day exhibition and book of large format typographic posters based on football chants, in aid of British Blind Sport, curated by Nick Blakeman, Alex Brown and Craig Oldham. We were delighted to be asked to contribute and to be featured in the selection at the exhibition. The project was later featured in one of Creative Review's Monographs and on various online journals.

dn&co poster featured in Twenty Two exhibition

We were delighted to be invited to interpret the number 'two' along with a collection of other lovely design agencies in this exhibition celebrating Two Times Elliott's fifth anniversary. Such a simple brief led to so many wonderful interpretations. Ours, shown here being screen printed (photo © Two Times Elliott), takes inspiration from 2B and 2H pencils.

dn&co launches newspaper

London's newest newspaper is launched. Our first foray into the publishing world, we have become editors, art directors and reporters on the ground. The St James's Correspondent quarterly newspaper is a celebration of fashion, art, food and culture in this lovely corner of London. You can pick it up in quality retailers, hotels, offices and occasionally spot it distributed at West End tube stations.

3 D&AD awards for dn&co

Two of our projects have scooped 3 awards at this year's D&ADs. Moorgate Exchange bags two in the Integrated Graphics and Wayfinding & Environmental Graphics categories. Our extensive work on St James's London has also been recognised in the Integrated Graphics category. The awesome photo shown here (© D&AD) is of the huge judging venue.

Repeat business is our favourite form of flattery, but being recognised by the stars of the design world is a very close second. We are honoured to be featured in the D&AD annual for signage and wayfinding, and that our work for 200 Aldersgate is selected in one of Victionary’s latest sold out books: Black & White, New Monochrome Graphics.

Ping pong merrily on high – a party

This year has seen a lot of exciting projects go through dn&co, and with it a good deal of effort. We celebrated the year in our favourite way – with cocktails and mild competition in the private room of Bounce London. Our special invitation was printed on both sides of glassine paper, giving it an interesting multiplicity when folded down to our now classic mailout A6 size.

A6 series 003: Olympics 2012 temporary tattoos

Summer is here and everyone is looking bronzed, some still silver and a few artificially golden: what better way to support the London 2012 games than with a rule-bending but highly-celebratory temporary tattoo, featuring London’s architectural landmarks? We will be showing our solidarity for the games and sporting our transfers with pride. Limited production run of 500. *No Olympic sponsors or dn&co employees’ arms were harmed by the production or application of the tattoos.

Let it snow – more fun with post its

We had such fun with post-its in our windows back in July that we decided then and there to reprise the concept with a snowy theme for the holidays. We couldn’t have known then that the weather would be this mild, but we like the sentiment anyway. Happy holidays from all at dn&co.

AirW1 featured in Grafik blog

It’s always a lovely compliment to be featured in the design magazines – we know how high their standards are! Our identity and production work for AirW1 has been written up on Grafik’s blog. Praise included: “an increasingly rare example of a beautifully designed corporate brochure”. The bespoke Air Deco font will feature in the hard copy magazine too. We’ll keep you posted.

A6 series 002: new dn&co website

A while back we decided that our mailers would always be A6, and recently we began numbering the series. So, officially number 002 is our client mailout announcing the new website. The homepage is printed onto 40gsm bible paper – so thin that it gives it a translucency and ethereal feel that gets print closer to digital. It is also an odd shape that folds in a unique way down to A6. The QR code at the bottom was a last minute inspiration.

Our new studio in the West End

We’re settled into the new studio on Wigmore Street and have made it our own with a coat of paint, wall graphics, bespoke furniture, wall-mounted bike racks and running sheets from press runs mounted to birch ply. Come by to say hello. Click here to see more photos of the studio.

We’ve moved

We’ve just posted our change of address cards – black screen printed onto moving box cardboard. We first noticed that dn was ‘up’ when turned over when we set out our logotype. It took 5 years to find a good use for it.

New corporate identity for EA Shaw

We are delighted to have created a total rebrand for London estate agency EA Shaw. The brief was to create a relevant corporate identity that showed them as both contemporary and established, and showed off their various competencies. What resulted was a graphic icon based on a door, facade, or wall – totally relevant to their business – combined with a strapline to firmly underline they have been established since 1899. Our involvement ran from concept to all print materials, template design, signage, office graphics, corporate website, and the final induction of the new brand to the entire company (shown here). To see our work, click here.

A6 series 001: our world cup chart

We like the World Cup in our studio, and to celebrate we have created a very dn&co World Cup Chart to help our friends and clients track the matches. It folds down to a very handy A6 size.

dn&co work recognised by D&AD

We are delighted that our brochure design for wells&more has been awarded D&AD in book recognition. An original mechanic was used to show the reader highly graphical content on matt stock when flipped in one direction, and beautiful high gloss architectural photography when flipped the other way. This was achieved by trimming 5mm off every other page. The back&forth concept was the ultimate manifestation of the brand concept. Click here to see the project on the D&AD website.

When 23 Savile Row needed a special invitation, we delivered by proposing a unique keepsake of a portland stone brick like the building’s facade. The event had 99% attendance – who could say no to that invitation? Victionary seem to agree and have featured the invitation in their book, By Invitation Only. We are delighted to have taken home the top award for UK offices at the property marketing awards this year for our wells&more campaign for GPE. We’re 2! Let’s go bowling

We enjoyed a night out bowling with clients and friends in the private lanes and bar at All Star Lanes to celebrate a great second year at dn&co. We produced a unique invitation for the night using three die-cut holes to hint at the evening’s activity.

dn&co wins bentley international marketing award

We created the brand identity, stationery, website, advertising and various brochures for Alpine Homes International when they launched as a new company. It was great to then be recognised by the Bentley International Property Awards – 5 stars for agency marketing. The photo was too funny not to post.
